Scott was supremely talented in his field – a ground-breaker and pioneer of climbing methodology and equipment which he introduced to acclaim and respect from the Australian arborist industry. He brought this depth of knowledge and skill to his relationship with the ATRAES group. Ever the innovator, Scott was always quick to grasp and improve splicing techniques (even introducing splices that were unique to him) and quickly established himself as an incredible resource in product development (not limited by any means to simply rope – it was an all encompassing interest and passion of Scotts' to improve products, methods and standing of the arborist industry itself).

Through Scotts' work with ATRAES he travelled throughout Australia, Singapore and the USA to indulge his passion for ropes, splicing and gear development. He visited Yale Cordage in the USA and spent a week in Yale’s rigging division learning the finer arts of braided rope splicing (and managed to teach the Yale riggers a trick or two!) As a consequence Scott, along with John Canning and Bill Rouse, are the only Yale Cordage fully factory certified splicers in Australia, an achievement of which Scott was extremely proud. Anyone who knew Scott and used his spliced goods, were aware they were using the best constructed splicing available in the world.
During his time as an advocate for the ATRAES group, Scott, with his trademark smile and open, selfless approach, embraced every opportunity to attend key industry events and to further the understanding and profile of the arborist industry. It is fair to say that Scott was universally respected within and outside the arborist community and it was a privilege of the ATRAES group to have been represented so professionally by such a brilliant individual.
Scotts' skills, approach and regard will prove to be irreplaceable. However, Cannings/ATRAES group intend honouring Scotts' memory and contributions in a couple of significant ways. We are releasing shortly an exclusive rope, designed in conjunction with Jamie Goddard of Yale Cordage, named in honour of Scott – The Yale SSharpe. The vibrant colours of the rope will reflect Scotts' personality and passion. Furthermore, 20% of all sales will be retained and paid into a memorial trust for the continuing benefit of his wife and children.
We remember Scott with genuine affection and hope that in some small measure, we can preserve his memory and honour his significance to the industry and people he loved.
WE WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU, SCOTT. YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
